You may well have heard of The Honest Toddler. The ‘tell-it-like-it is’ tot is, after all, an online celebrity with over 240,000 Twitter followers and 135,000 Facebook fans. With the tag-line ‘Not potty trained, not trying’, the Honest Toddler dishes out pearls of toddler wisdom.
Behind the infamous tot is Montreal mum of three Bunmi Laditan. The Honest Toddler: A Child’s Guide to Parenting has just been published. It is brilliantly funny and will strike a chord with anyone who has shared a house with a toddler. We are delighted not only to have 5 copies of the book to giveaway but to have an exclusive blog post from the Honest Toddler, who wants to share a few things with Netmums members. So – anyone with toddlers take note – here’s what The Honest Toddler has to say:

Ten Things Your Toddler Desperately Wants You To Know![The Honest Toddler]()
1. Don’t call someone “Your sunshine your only sunshine” and then hug daddy.
2. Ok, you’re tired but you know what pairs great with a glass of evening wine? A clear conscience. Do not skip ANY of the bedtime routine steps. All 400 of them need to be finished to completion in the agreed upon order lest you take it from the top.
3. Speaking of bedtime, evening stories were meant to be read in chronological order without any skipped pages. Sit with that for a moment.
4. 2 a.m. is a good a time as any to call a family meeting about pajamas, socks, and general concerns/complaints. Please show up ready to listen.
5. Clothing is just a social construct. An idea, really. Trailblazing toddlers will often choose not to partake. Respect.
6. Sharing is a skill that will come with time. Childhood is best spent acquiring and hoarding. Leave it alone.
7. Not all boo boos are visible to the naked eye. Emotional wounds need Band-Aids as much as physical ones do. Be generous.
8. Someone eating Nutella with a spoon from the jar is not in the best position to tell a toddler they can’t have cake icing for dinner.
9. “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” Or help clean up the mess.
10. Please don’t call it “fake crying”. We prefer the term “enhanced emotional response.” Thank you.
